Brian Anderson started Planteria using his mother’s lounge in Wanstead, East London to store the company’s very first plant display delivery. Operations swiftly moved to a greenhouse erected in the back garden as orders grew in size and the first maintenance contract was secured.
Brian partnered up with Phil Anderson and merged Planteria with Phil’s own plant maintenance business started in the late 1980s; growing the company’s operations and expertise significantly.
A couple of years on and a nursery was purpose-built in Chigwell, Essex, which consisted of a 2700sq ft. greenhouse and a 240sq ft. Portakabin on a 2.5 acre field. As Planteria experienced steady growth year on year throughout the 90s, an extra 650sq ft. of offices were added in 1996.
A decade later and £1m turnover was reached, quickly rising to £1.94m over the following three years. In one year, the business grew almost 50% adding £0.5m of additional sales.
The company was incorporated and head office was moved to Henham, Hertfordshire, to a converted garden centre with 6 acres of land and plenty of room for expansion, while the Finance and Sales team moved to Witley, Surrey into premises that were acquired and refurbished the same year.
Planteria officially became a Zero to Landfill Company, seeing all waste is recycled and all green waste turned into compost. In a quest to preserve the planet’s trees, the firm also launched a paperless Service Management System incorporating the latest Smart Phone integration technology.
